Accessibility Statement – butterflyidentification.com

At butterflyidentification.com, efforts have been made to make the website’s content accessible to the general public, including people with disabilities, individuals with various impairments, and users who may experience difficulty using computers or the internet.

We believe it is important to provide equal service to all users and continuously work to improve the accessibility of the website.

How the site is built

ButterflyIdentification.com is a static website: every page is plain HTML with a single heading hierarchy, a skip-to-content link, text alternatives for every photograph, and no scripts standing between you and the content. The design uses large body text, a colour palette tested for contrast and a layout that adapts to any screen width without horizontal scrolling. Animations are switched off automatically for visitors who ask their system for reduced motion.

What Is an Accessible Website

An accessible website is designed to provide a convenient, user-friendly, and inclusive browsing experience for all users, including people with disabilities.

An accessible website allows all visitors to browse comfortably, read content easily, and use the services offered on the site in an efficient and convenient manner.

Accessibility Adjustments Implemented on the Website

As part of the accessibility efforts on this website, the following adjustments have been made, among others:

  • Organizing the heading structure according to proper hierarchy (H1, H2, H3) to support screen readers.
  • Adjusting the structure of pages and content for better readability.
  • Improving color contrast to enhance readability.
  • Enabling navigation using a keyboard where possible.
  • Testing compatibility across common browsers and operating systems.

The website was built in accordance with the accessibility guidelines of
W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 – Level AA.

Text size and contrast

The site does not add its own accessibility toolbar; it relies on the tools already built into every modern browser and operating system, which work on every page here: browser zoom (Ctrl and + or Cmd and +), the reader mode of Safari, Firefox and Edge, high-contrast and inverted-colour modes at system level, and screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver. All text stays readable at 200% zoom and the collapsible sections (the table of contents and the FAQs) can be opened with the keyboard.

Keyboard Navigation

The website can be navigated using a keyboard:

  • Press TAB to move between elements on the page.
  • Increase font size using CTRL +
  • Decrease font size using CTRL -

The website has been tested on common operating systems and major browsers, including:
