Dr. James Watuwa holds a Master of Science in Wildlife Health and Management (MSc. WHM) and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). Dr. James Watuwa gained international experience in the United States at the White Oak Conservation Area in Florida. During his time there from May to June 2022, he served as a Trainee Veterinarian, broadening his practical skills in a different conservation context outside of his work in Uganda.
Dr. James Watuwa’s current professional role is at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC-Zoo) in Entebbe, Uganda. He has been in this position since May 2019, applying his extensive expertise in animal care, clinical practice, and wildlife management to the center’s diverse species.
Dr. Watuwa contributed to mountain gorilla conservation by serving as a Team Leader for the Bwindi-Sarambwe Mountain Gorilla Census in 2018. He also worked as a Wildlife Veterinarian with Conservation Through Public Health, an organization directly involved in the health and conservation of these endangered primates.
